RECREATION

Soccer South Soccer Club, formerly known as Southridge Soccer Club has been providing youth soccer opportunities to children, adolescents and teenagers in our community for over 40 years.  Our complex is located at 5171 Park Ave, on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa.  Our club relies on the strength of its volunteer board members, coaches and parents.      

As a recreational soccer club, we aspire to:

• Provide a positive learning environment for kids to learn the game of soccer
• Promote health and exercise to our youth through soccer
• Focus on individual player development and allow each player to reach his or her desired potential
• Represent the diversity of South Des Moines and surrounding areas
• Provide financial assistance if needed, so that no child is unable to participate due to financial reasons

Each fall we form recreational teams for U-6 (under 6) through U-19 to participate in our league. Our U6 and U8 teams play in a Soccer South only league and our U10 teams participate in a 3 club league.  Our U12 and above teams participate in the Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League.  Each team is assigned a volunteer coach and players will practice 1-2 times weekly, with at least 1 game on the weekend.   During the spring season, we have teams from U6 through U14, which allows our older members to participate in High School soccer.  An average season consists of about 10 weeks, with about 8 league games assigned.  Almost all games are played on Sunday afternoons, between the hours of 1 and 5pm.  This allows our membership to attend regular church service if desired.  We do have an occasional Saturday game for the older teams.
